Visa

Citizens of all countries require a valid passport (for at least 6 months from date of departure) and an appropriate visa. Visa must be obtained abroad from an Indian Embassy or Consulate. If any foreign delegate is attending the conference, approval from Nodal Ministry, MHA and MEA need to be acquired.

 

To get visas for participants from – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, and foreigners of Pakistan origin settled in other countries, the information on the particular format needs to be given and sent to WCA 2014 Secretariat at least 10 weeks before participant’s intended date of travel.

 

The Ministry of Home Affairs will send necessary instructions to the respective ministries once the approval is granted by the departments concerned.

Health regulation

A valid yellow-fever certificate is mandatory for all individuals (including infants) who have been or were in transit in Africa, South Africa or Papua New Guinea six days prior to their arrival in India. The certificate becomes valid 10 days after vaccination. India does not require immunization against small pox or cholera.

Visitors are generally required to make a verbal identification of their baggage and declare foreign currency in excess of $10,000.

Please keep in mind that Delhi is typically very cold in February. It is also one of the best times to travel in north India. Day temperatures range from 16 – 22 °C. Nights are cooler, with the temperatures dipping to 7 – 12 °C. Usually, there are no rains during this season; though unexpected brief showers cannot be ruled out.

Currency

India’s currency unit is the rupee (INR), divided into 100 paisa (p). Delegates can convert foreign exchange into Indian rupees or vice versa at their hotels.

Electricity

In India voltage is 220 V, 50 Hz. Round pins (2 or 3) can fit in the power sockets. Adapters are generally available at all hotels, however we recommend acquiring one before travel to allow for convenient charging upon arrival.


taxi
Taxi

Taxis are on call round-the-clock in Delhi. Air-conditioned (AC) Radio taxis may be called by dialling +91-11-43434343 or +91-11-44224422. These taxis have a flat charge per kilometre travelled, and are available at the both the international and domestic terminals of the airport. In addition, there are prepaid taxi counters at the airport for travelling to any part of the city. We advise that hiring private cars and unlicensed taxis must be done with caution and is not recommended for delegates.

India is 5.5 hours ahead of GMT, 4.5 hours behind Australian Eastern Time, and 10.5 hours ahead of American Eastern Standard Time.
